Spinal Cord Simulation
Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS) is an advanced option for those patients with back or leg pain who may or may not have had back surgery. It is generally thought that SCS short circuits the pain before it reaches the brain.
In the early days, it was used for end-stage chronic pain, often due to failed fusion surgery. As medicine advanced and neurostimulator devices improved, SCS became more common and effective. Today, while still used to treat failed fusion surgery, this innovative pain relief treatment is often included in additional treatment protocols, including treatment for complex regional pain syndrome, multilevel degenerative disc disease, chronic lower back and leg pain, and painful diabetic neuropathy (PDN).
